The beginning of my Topical Steroid Withdraw Journey

There is a moment in your life that your body can cause symptoms.
That can be anything and in my case my biggest complaint is eczema.
I have had it all my life and have never thought about how I could counter this.
What is often said with an autoimmune disease is that you suffer from it all your life and you have to use certain medication to reduce the symptoms.
What you actually do with your body when you use the medication is that you suppress the symptoms, such as skin problems, abdominal pain, headache.
When we, as people, suffer from something for a longer period of time, our easiest and first option is to make an appointment with the doctor. They will prescribe a remedy for complaints such as eczema, acne and stomach flu.
That was my situation for a long time.

The reason I went to the doctor always had to do with my skin complaints.
As a child I already had eczema complaints. Itchy red spots on the inside of my arms.
If it bothered me my mother would have applied an oil to my skin and occasionally she would lubricate a topical steriod (medication for skin problems).
It has also been gone for years, but as soon as I experienced a lot of stress in my life it came back just like that.

When I was about 15 years old, it came back worse than usual due to the amount of stress I was confronted with. I have experienced many changes from the age of 14 to 18, such as moving house, changing schools and getting used to a new environment. I also had problems with eating, which started in adolescence. These things made sure that my immune system was not at its best and I also had more problems with my eczema, which caused me to get topical steriod creams from the doctor every time. I have had periods in which I had to aply the cream every day so that the spots would disappear.

first glance it seemed like a wunder cream. You lubricated and a day later the spots were barely visible and I was relieved of the redness and itching.
But I noticed that with time it only got worse and my eczema could no longer be controlled. My whole body started to get fully red and painfull and got it where eczema had never been before. Before that I went to a dermatologist who told me that I had atopic eczema and that it was not curable. I would have to suppress it all my life with hormone ointment. That’s what I was told back then. I no longer wanted to be dependent on medication and certainly did not want to apply a stronger ointment.

It was no longer a normal eczema. I suffered from insomnia, concentration problems and anxiety attacks. I no longer felt comfortable in my own body.
I started to apply various eczema ointments, such as stipulations and nothing seemed to help.
I even went to a Chinese doctor who then gave me herbal supplements and herbs that I had to dab on my skin. That also gave only temporary relief and was desperate at this moment….

Then I went into a few Facebook groups about eczema and was told about the withdrawal of topical steriods. When I saw people who looked just like me and mentioned the withdrawal, a light came on. This is what I have. It is not only what I eat or not eat. It is the long term use of the topical steriod creams that has made me sick!

How Do You Get More Out of Life?

We always pretend that we want to get the best out of our lives, but what do we do in our daily lives to make that happen? It is good to reflect on the activities you undertake on a daily basis and you may come to the conclusion that it is time to introduce a little more variety and challenge. Let me show you some examples…

1. Limiting Electronics and Social Media

Nowadays everyone is glued to his/her phone and I also catch myself that I live far too little in reality and that I connect with what is happening around me. By reducing your screen time you will notice that you become much less irritable and can experience more peace. All very nice instastories where others are enjoying, but the intention is that you can experience those nice things YOURSELF!!!

2. Find a passion or fun activity

People with a passion are driven and motivated to get up every day. They get energy from the activity they enjoy. What is your passion? What makes you happy? What did you like to do as a child? Such questions can make you stop and dig deep to find your answer and thus get more out of life.

3. Take time to relax

Always busy and running and flying for everything and everyone. We sometimes forget our own needs and one of those things is to relax and unwind. You can decide for yourself how you are going to handle this. Take a bath, binge-watch that nice series, take a nice walk, do yoga or maybe take an afternoon nap. There is nothing wrong with doing ‘nothing at all’, because in fact you are charging to get more out of your life!

4. Set boundaries and learn to say ‘no’

By always answering ‘yes’ to everything, you sometimes forget what your own needs are. There is nothing wrong with saying ‘no’ to protect your own boundaries. Check whether something gives you energy or makes you tired. When you say “no” to others, you are actually saying “yes” to yourself. You will become less overstimulated and prevent mental stress.

5. Gain new experiences

Have you been wanting to visit a museum for a long time?, make a painting or perhaps a day at the spa? Don’t wait any longer for others and go out and about! By expanding your experiences your life will already look very different, you will meet new people, see other places and you can find out where your real interests are – ideal!!

6. Step outside your comfort zone

It’s very easy to get stuck in the same routine all the time. You go to work, meet up with your girlfriend every Saturday, visit the same places and avoid anything even slightly unexpected. You want to do something about this, but you don’t know where to start. Start with small changes, start a language course, talk to a stranger every day or maybe you want to go abroad for six months. Just do it!

7. Follow successful people

Nothing is more inspiring than hearing the success stories of people who have created their ideal career, made a lot of money or found the love of their life. Sometimes we forget that we only see the end station of these people. Starting your dream is always difficult, but by surrounding yourself with people who have the same dream as you, you get one step closer. Listen to podcast, read more or simply chat with these successful people.

8. Being in the moment

This is perhaps the most important to really experience life to the fullest. You can worry about what happened in the past and what will happen in the future, but we know deep down that this only creates unnecessary stress and fear about all kinds of scenarios about what could have been done differently or wrong. can go. By living in the here and now you get more peace and focus on what you are doing.

Hello beautiful people,

My name is Nadia and I am 21 years old. I started my healing journey in 2019 when I stopped using topical steroids for my worsening eczema and many other symptoms! Little did I know that I had a long, arduous journey ahead of me. I was curious about alternative medicine and came across plant-based foods. I was still eating junk food, but I had dumped the finished products and I already know a lot better! In 2020 I found the concept of ‘Whole food planted-based diet’ and became vegan for all the right reasons. For the , animals and my health. Reason behind veganism

So why is it that people go vegetarian or vegan these days? There are so many restaurants now that offer options available for vegetarians and vegans. We live in a world where we don’t know better then eating our meat and drinking our milk to get our B12 and calcium. Thats what you hear all the time. When you live a vegan lifestyle you don’t consume any animal products at all. But why are people eating this way? Like don’t they miss the burgers and treats that they used to like. How to cope with anxiety and depression?

There is a lot going on in this world right now and you can get overwhelmed by it and all the things that you need or want to archive in life. How can you stop stressing yourself out and take breaks for yourself? How to deal with those difficult things like panic attacks and feeling sad and depressed all the time. Identify your triggers and learn how to manage them

Anxiety can be created by a lot of different things. You can all them triggers. Sometimes they can be obvious like smoking, drinking, stress eating, drinking coffee and much more. Having feelings of anxiety for a long time is more different to find out for yourself. It may take you some time for you to figure out. Is it a financial situation or is it work-study related? Or maybe it’s a person that causes you a lot of stress and anxiety.

When you do figure out your trigger, you should try to limit your exposure if you can. If you can’t limit it — like if it’s due to a stressful work environment that you can’t currently change — using other coping techniques may help.

Write down your thoughts

When you have a lot on your mind and you get overwhelmed by the thought of fair just take a break and write your thoughts down. Through writing you can reflect those thoughts that makes you upset or anxious. You can buy a notebook and just take 10 minutes every day to write your emotions. You can also add the app ‘wordsmith’ or ‘think app’ on your phone to write if you are on the way and you get overwhelmed.

Try breathing exercises

Breathing exercises can help you cope and feel more in control. Mindfullness is a way of giving your full attention to the present moment. It can help with some anxiety disorders, but some people will find that it’s only getting worse.

Try breathing in for 4 counts and breathing out for 4 counts for 5 minutes total. By evening out your breath, you’ll slow your heart rate which should help calm you down. The 4-7-8 technique is also known to help anxiety.
