How to cope with anxiety and depression?

There is a lot going on in this world right now and you can get overwhelmed by it and all the things that you need or want to archive in life. How can you stop stressing yourself out and take breaks for yourself? How to deal with those difficult things like panic attacks and feeling sad and depressed all the time. You are not the only one that is struggling. It’s hard enough to have anxiety and depression so you don’t want to compare yourself to another.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of nervousness, worry and that typically occurs in the absence of a immediate danger. The feeling comes from the body’s natural reaction to stress, so when those feelings come up it can help you in life treathening situations.

Anxiety disorders and normal feelings of anxiousness are two different things. Many of us get anxious when faced with particular situations we find stressful, but if those feelings don’t subside, the anxiety could be more chronic. When feelings of fear or nervousness become excessive, difficult to control, or interfere with daily life, an anxiety disorder may be present.

Identify your triggers and learn how to manage them

Anxiety can be created by a lot of different things. You can all them triggers. Sometimes they can be obvious like smoking, drinking, stress eating, drinking coffee and much more. Having feelings of anxiety for a long time is more different to find out for yourself. It may take you some time for you to figure out. Is it a financial situation or is it work-study related? Or maybe it’s a person that causes you a lot of stress and anxiety.

When you do figure out your trigger, you should try to limit your exposure if you can. If you can’t limit it — like if it’s due to a stressful work environment that you can’t currently change — using other coping techniques may help.

Write down your thoughts

When you have a lot on your mind and you get overwhelmed by the thought of fair just take a break and write your thoughts down. Through writing you can reflect those thoughts that makes you upset or anxious. You can buy a notebook and just take 10 minutes every day to write your emotions. You can also add the app ‘wordsmith’ or ‘think app’ on your phone to write if you are on the way and you get overwhelmed.

Try breathing exercises

Breathing exercises can help you cope and feel more in control. Mindfullness is a way of giving your full attention to the present moment. It can help with some anxiety disorders, but some people will find that it’s only getting worse.

Try breathing in for 4 counts and breathing out for 4 counts for 5 minutes total. By evening out your breath, you’ll slow your heart rate which should help calm you down. The 4-7-8 technique is also known to help anxiety.
